Care and Respect:
- We take care of each other and treat all
athletes, coaches, fans, and meet officials with respect. We take care of our equipment and
facilities.
- We strive for quality work each day in practice
and in competition. We work to
improve on our personal and team bests.

Commitment:
- We make a commitment to ourselves, our
teammates, our coaches, and to our school.
- We know the season schedule and commit to full
participation in all practices and meets.
(Know the league and invitational meet
schedule!) Invitational meets are
crucial to preparing for post-season competition; all athletes are
expected to compete in at least one Saturday invitational meet. Our team will be going to the state championship
meet at Mt. Tahoma on May 23-24: varsity athletes must plan
accordingly.
- We are students first. Athletes must be in school every period of every day to be
eligible to practice and compete.

Practice:
- We value practice everyday. (You must tell Coach
McClement in advance if you must miss practice or meets for any
reason. Talk to Coach McClement,
and we will work with you.)
Prior
notice? 1st = ok, 2nd = review status with head
coach - could miss next meet.
- Unexcused absences? 1st = miss next meet, 2nd = contract
with coach, 3rd = removal from team? Communicate with Coach McClement about any challenges you
face, and we will work with you.
- We arrive prepared with a water bottle and a
hooded sweatshirt or hat. We begin
on time at 3:00 pm at Civic Field, and we end at 5:15 pm with a handshake
from the event coach and/or head coach.
- We follow
a prescribed training path: Sprint workout (all jumpers, hurdlers, and
vaulters complete the daily sprint workout), Distance workout, or Thrower
workout.
- Coaches plan workouts: No “free agent”
practices.

Competition:
- We wear only Bellingham High School gear at
every meet, and we arrive in full uniform ready to compete. We represent BHS by starting and ending
each meet with two team laps “shoulder to shoulder” shuffling in full
uniform sweats. (Be ready!)
- We support each other. We meet as an entire team after our two laps at the end of
each competition to acknowledge and celebrate our efforts. (Athletes are dismissed
only after this meeting by shaking the hand of their event coach and the
head coach.)
- We ride Bellingham School District provided
transportation to and from each meet.
- Coaches decide who competes in which events.
New for 2008: (All sprinters, jumpers,
and vaulters run the 100m and 200m. We
will create 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams after 3 weeks of 100m and 200m
races.)
