RED RAIDER BASEBALL

RULES & EXPECTATIONS

By being in our baseball program there will be high expectations placed on you. There will be times when you cannot do your own thing. The following items are in place to make you a better person and promote the image of our program and Bellingham High.

DAILY CONDUCT:

  1. Each player is expected to conform to the rules that govern our turnouts. Specifically, turnout each day and be early to practice if at all possible. We will start practice promptly at 2:45 daily with the exception of morning and weekend practices.
    1. Attendance at all practices and games is required. Making a phone call or having a prearranged note signed prior to a missed practice must excuse absences. Examples of excused absences would be illness and emergencies. All appointments & family vacations should be scheduled at times other than practices or games.
    2. A 1 game suspension will be issued for each UN-excused absence! (Communicate…Communicate…Communicate!)
    3. Practices will run approximately from 2:45-5:30pm Monday through Friday with some Saturday practices scheduled in.
  2. Each player is expected to comply with the Bellingham School District Athletic Code.
  3. Each player is expected to conduct himself in a gentlemanly manner at all times. Specifically, this refers to our conduct on the field, in the locker room, on campus, on the bus, around the community and on road trips. Please be courteous to the administration, faculty, coaches of all sports, students, and have respect for all other programs at Bellingham High School. We are all working towards common goals. We all represent Bellingham High School.
    1. Our program lives by a "2 strikes your out" policy (Tough League!).  If a player is involved in any behavior, which the coaching staff feels is anti-productive to our baseball program, the player will be asked to turn in his gear and no longer be a part of the Red Raider Baseball Program.
    2. One "warning" will be given for the inappropriate behavior.  The second time an infraction occurs, the player will be asked to turn in his gear and no longer be a part of the Red Raider Baseball Program.
  4. Report all injuries promptly to a coach. If you don’t tell us you are injured, we may not be able to tell. We want to help you. Depending on the injury, there still may be certain things you can do. If you are not injured we will expect you to work hard. You do not help the team working at half speed. If you can still practice, we can always work with you in some capacity.
    1. Coaches should be made aware of any medical condition that a player may have. Any athlete that has gone to a doctor will need a release to play before a coach can allow the athlete to resume activity.

  2. Disrespect for coaches, faculty and staff will not be tolerated.
  3. If you have a concern or problem with another player, a coach, playing time, etc. you must adhere to the following steps to resolve the problem.
    1. Player should talk to your coach FIRST about the concern or problem you have. Coaches will not address parents or other concerned individuals until the player has voiced their concern.

Players are expected to perform the necessary function and return to the dugout without incident.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

We have a great group of kids in our baseball program. I want to thank you for the job you have done raising them. The 3 biggest things that worry me about today’s young people are responsibility, selfishness, and respect for others. Please read the list of expectations we have on our baseball players. We want to have the classiest kids in the school and promote a positive image of our program and Bellingham High. When we need something done, it helps when our administrators and people in the community appreciate the way our kids conduct themselves.

These policies are in place for the welfare of our players and success of our program. I realize most parents want their son to be all-state more than they want the team to succeed. This is normal. As coaches we prefer the opposite. We want all of our players to receive individual honors, but we will make decisions based on the welfare of the team and our program. We as coaches will make decisions you will not agree with at times. You do not have to agree them or like them, but in order for us to be successful you have to support them. We might have to get on your son, punish your son or raise our voice toward your son but this will be done with what’s best for him. We promise we will never come to your place of employment and criticize your decisions.

  1. No food or drink provided by anyone other than Bellingham coaching staff during games and practices. If you need to get your son food or drink, please do so before they reach the ballpark.
  2. Before games and between doubleheaders, players will not be allowed to socialize or visit. This time begins 1 hour prior to game time until dismissed by coaches following the game.
  3. No coaching by parents during games or practices.
  4. No discussion of playing time, strategy, or baseball only matters will be had between parents and coaching staff. There are no baseball only confidential conversations. The player will be informed of any attempt at such talks.
  5. Communication about players’ academics, social life, and other non-baseball concerns is encouraged and can be kept confidential.
  6. There is no communication allowed between parents/relatives/friends and any uniformed player during games or practice.
  7. The playing field, batting cages, etc. is off limits to everyone but players and staff during practices and games.
